Introduction
The first RPG I can remember buying is the classic Maelstrom back in 1984, I still have that book upstairs.
It’s well used, but I never actually got to play it.
At some time after that I remember buying the Corgi edition of Tunnels & Trolls (the small paperback editions) which led to the Mentzer red box, and lots more T&T and then AD&D 1st edition, and then…2nd Edition and…Runequest and Traveller…
I was the eternal GM.
I still have hand typed encounter tables written at school, and maps from our adventures and very fond memories of gaming at my mum & dad’s old house in the mid to late 1980s and early 90s. At some point in the mid 90s, I stopped and my gaming collection went into storage.
Around 2005, I headed to London where I managed to get into a regular Traveller gaming group for the best part of 18 months.
Then I moved back to Scotland, I sold off quite a significant chunk of my collection to save space…a classic RuneQuest second edition, lots of issues of Challenge magazine many more things that I never thought I’d play again.
Then the itch came back in 2009, and I started a group again…with 4E, we had a lot of fun, and I met a very brave woman who was willing to turn up at a stranger’s home with several other strangers to game.
We played for several years until scheduling conflicts (real life) became too hard to manage, (fortunately the very brave woman allowed me to marry her which solved one scheduling problem).
But, the itch never goes away…so…I find myself back gaming at a monthly gaming session (and I’m not the GM).
